Jr. ‘B’ Rebels strive to be competitive
BY SEAN BRAY Sports Editor The Char-Lan CCHL2 Rebels held their second on-ice session Monday, after which head coach Jeff Carter stressed the club will be icing a competitive group that features six returning forwards, along with two veteran defencemen and a seasoned goaltending tandem.
Grant Craig and Dawson Irving are back between the pipes for the 2018-19 season.
The Rebels’ top goal scorer from last season, Brennan Markell, along with vets Sam Ferland and Mathieu Sabourin will be counted upon to lead up front.
Char-Lan’s regular-season home opener is slated for Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Char-Lan Rec. Centre in Williamstown, where the Winchester Hawks will visit and provide the opposition. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
The campaign will open the week before, at the league showcase, where the Rebels will play a double bill on Sept. 15 and 16, in Arnprior.
Fans get an early chance to see how the boys are shaping up, starting with an exhibition game tonight in Alexandria, at the Glengarry Sports Palace.
The Glens will return the visit on Saturday, Sept. 8. Both matches are set for an 8 p.m. puck drop.
Char-Lan is also scheduled to play Sunday on the road in Brockville, while Alexandria is slated to host the Richmond Royals, at 2:30 p.m.
More physical Glens
Alexandria head coach Stephan Nadeau says the Glens “will definitely be a more physical team than last year,” adding, “our fans can expect a better all-around team … as we have added depth to our roster.”
