Jim Bancroft has withdrawn from the race to represent Glengarry and Stormont on the Upper Canada District School Board, citing “ongoing health issues dating back to the first week of August.” The South Stormont mayor, said his announcement “will hopefully give all residents the opportunity to review the information on the other candidates, John Danaher and Marshall Wilson, before casting your ballot.” His name will remain on the ballot in the October 22 election that will decide the successor to Wendy MacPherson, who is stepping down after serving four years on the board. “The UCDSB faces many challenges in the near term,” Mr. Bancroft said Monday. “Rural education should never be discounted, and maintaining our rural schools located in our hamlets and villages must always remain a priority for every trustee seeking your support. I am sure the remaining candidates will also be supportive. My decision did not come easily. However, after discussing with my family and a few close friends, I feel the residents deserve a trustee that will be able to provide the time and energy to meet your expectations.”
