Football for student-athletes in Grades 9 and 10 is scheduled to kick off today in Cornwall, where the Glengarry Gaels will play the St. Joseph’s Panthers and the North Grenville Knights.

The league plays a six-on-six format, tournament style, with a pair of one-hour games for each of three teams. Field size is narrower than a standard football field, though they play the full length.

The primary aim of this league is to develop football skills and knowledge, in preparation for playing at the high school varsity level.

Other Oct. 3 action will take place in Russell, with St. Thomas Aquinas, Gananoque, and Renfrew seeing action.

Next week, on Oct. 10, play moves to Alexandria, where GDHS will host St. Joseph’s and Gananoque.

Game start times are set for noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m.

The season schedule continues Oct. 17 and 24, with a finale on Oct. 31 for a full-length game.
