Santa in Williamstown
Williamstown will host a Santa Claus Parade this year. According to resident Elsy Sloan, who is organizing the parade along with Jane Grant, Punam Munro and Margie McDonell, it may well be the first time that the village has had such an event. “We’re doing it because we’re all new grandmothers and we wanted to do something to boost the community,” says Ms. Sloan. “We’re hoping that families and businesses will put in floats.” She says that the Williamstown Fire Station is helping out too. In the past, the station hosted a meet-and-greet with Santa but this year, firefighters are committed to getting him in the parade too. The parade is slated for Saturday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. It will start at Char-Lan District High School and end at St. Mary’s Centre, where Santa will meet the kids and where free hot dogs, hot chocolate and entertainment will be available.
If you plan on participating in the parade, the organizers ask that you refrain from throwing candy or from dressing up as Santa, as they would like to keep him until the end. For more information, contact Elsy Sloan at 613347-2611 or Punam Munro at 613-347-1405.
