Fal­cons sweep Gaels

BY SEAN BRAY Sports Ed­i­tor SD&G high school girls bas­ket­ball last week at the Fal­cons’ Nest saw the host Holy Trin­ity se­nior and ju­nior squads sweep the vis­it­ing Glen­garry Gaels.

In the se­nior game, the Fal­cons held the vis­i­tors to sin­gle dig­its into the fourth quar­ter, en route to a 38-15 vic­tory.

HT’s top point- get­ter was An­nika Set­ter­ing­ton, with 19, while Brooke Lapierre had 5 to lead the Gaels.

The ju­nior con­test went into the books as a 38-23 win for the Fal­cons.

On Oct. 1 play­ing Se­away, HT’s se­nior girls scored a 38-18 vic­tory, led by Set­ter­ing­ton’s 18 points.

Oct. 2 ac­tion for Tagwi saw the se­nior War­riors pre­vail 26-16 over l’Her­itage, with Mor­gan Gallinger’s 10 points lead­ing the of­fence. The ju­nior War­riors won a nail-biter over the Drag­ons, 14-13. Heidi McIntyre had 6 points for tops on the Tagwi tribe.

Last Fri­day in Alexan­dria, GDHS’ se­nior girls tri­umphed over the CCVS Raiders 34-22, as Lapierre led her Gaels with 16.

The ju­nior Gaels also won against the Raiders, scor­ing a 26-20 de­ci­sion. Kayla McPher­son was tops, with 17 points.

Up­com­ing ac­tion in­cludes Glen­garry play­ing at la Citadelle to­day, Oct. 10, start­ing at noon.

Tagwi is sched­uled to host St. Joseph’s on Oct. 15 (4 p.m. start), and a day later, Char-Lan will en­ter­tain Holy Trin­ity (1 p.m.).

Ear­lier this week, the HEO midget ‘AAA’ league an­nounced its top per­form­ers for Septem­ber. Amongst the hon­ourees was Fe­lix Sauvé, rec­og­nized as top de­fence­man. The 16- year- old from Alexan­dria notched eight points (in­clud­ing 4 goals) in 12 games. He also had a four-game goal-scor­ing streak, set­ting the stage for a quar­tet of Hawkes­bury vic­to­ries.–
