High school ath­letes on the Trot

Stu­dent-ath­letes from Tagwi SS and Glen­garry DHS par­tic­i­pated in the Turkey Trot cross-coun­try run­ning meet, held Oct. 4 in Kemptville.

Glen­garry’s Brooke Lapierre placed 9th in the se­nior girls 6 km race (25:54.21) for the only top-20 fin­ish of the War­riors and Gaels at the event.

Other se­nior girls re­sults saw Rachel Camp­bell place 68th, Saba Was­si­hun 73rd, and Shae-Lynn Di­caire 90th of 111 en­trants.

Gaels in se­nior boys ( 147 com­peti­tors): Kevin Doyle 31st ( 24: 14.39), Odin Mar­furtBreak­endridge 48th, Nathan Rei­jmers 54th, Aaron Keuren­t­jes 59th, Phillipe Sum­mers 79th, Shayne Dickie 80th.

War­riors in se­nior boys: Liam Ault 63rd, Martin Ruddy Miguelez 67th.

Gaels in ju­nior girls (93 run­ners): Ella Camp­bell 55th (28:25.21), Tay­lor Ham­ble­ton 59th, Kaisa Este 79th, Olivia Ro­man 93rd.

War­rior in ju­nior girls: Ines Menchero Gar­cia.

Glen­garry’s Carl Mar­furtBreak­en­ridge placed 38th in midget boys (16:27.53). Oth­ers: Cal­lum Nys­trom 40th, Rory McK­in­non 48th, Josh Pi­card 79th, Rowan MacPher­son 83rd.

War­rior in midget boys: Heath Pat­ter­son 78th.

Glen­garry’s sched­uled match last week was post­poned, giv­ing the Gaels the bye.

On Oct. 11, Glen­garry is slated to play at St. Joseph’s, in Corn­wall, be­gin­ning at 1 p.m.

The week’s other game has Holy Trin­ity at la Citadelle on Fri­day, for an 11:30 a.m. start.

The Glen­garry Gaels be­gan the 2018 high school ju­nior six-on­six foot­ball sea­son last week, go­ing 1 and 1.The boys opened with a 30-8 vic­tory over North Grenville, led by Mati Gouskos’ three touch­downs. Also record­ing ma­jors were Matt Miller and Rowan MacPher­son. Con­vert kicks, which count for two points at this level, were made by MacPher­son (2), and Miller.Their other con­test was a 46-0 thrash­ing by host St. Joseph’s.Stand­ings: St. Joseph’s (2-0), St. Thomas-Aquinas (2-0), Glen­garry (1-1), Ren­frew (0-0-1), Gananoque (0-0-1), North Grenville (0-2).
