Rainy, cold weather dominates Chilly Willy run
Mother Nature provided challenging weather conditions for the fourth edition of the Chilly Willy run, in Williamstown, though the rain and cold failed to dampen the spirits of the 82 individuals who completed the event.
Summerstown’s Christian Belair won the half marathon course, 14 minutes faster than runner-up Sebastian Warner. The top female was Sue Duval.
Belair has won the title each of the four years of the Chilly Willy.
In the 10 km race, Marie-Josee Cardinal prevailed over a field of 14 runners, winning by 10 minutes ahead of Melissa Mader-Tardiff. The first-place male was Wendell Lafave.
Amongst the 5 km entrants were Char-Lan Rebels youth hockey team members, one of whom, 12-year-old Tristan Bombardier, finished first.
Sexagenarian Tim Scapillato placed second, while 10-year-old Kira Bombardier was the top female, 10th overall.
Chilly Willy lead organizer Sheila Lafave says the dreary weather conditions likely deterred some race day registrants, as numbers were down from years past.
The fall run typically has approximately 100 participants.
The grounds and newly-renovated building of the Sir John Johnson Manor House serve as the base for the event, with athletes enjoying hot beverages and chili after the race.
