IRV­ING BAKER

On Thurs­day, No­vem­ber 8, 2018 in his 98th year, died at the Sun­ny­brook Vet­eran’s Cen­tre. Beloved hus­band of the late He­len Baker. Lov­ing fa­ther and fa­ther-in-law of Mitchell and Joyce Baker, and Jim and Jane Baker. Lov­ing grand­fa­ther of Emily, Lauren, Rachel and Adam. Irv­ing grad­u­ated from the School of Op­tom­e­try in 1942 and served as an Op­tometrist in the Royal Cana­dian Med­i­cal Army Corps in World War 2. After the War, he prac­ticed Op­tom­e­try for four decades and was the long time Reg­is­trar of the Col­lege of Op­tometrists of On­tario. He re­tired in 1996 after 54 years in the pro­fes­sion and of­ten said "I never worked a day in my life". Pol­icy maker, clin­i­cian, teacher, ad­vo­cate and fam­ily man, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him and whose life was made richer for it. A very spe­cial thank you to Michael, Donna and Mari­cel for their car­ing and for be­ing there.

A grave­side ser­vice will be held on Mon­day, No­vem­ber 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Blos­som Memo­rial Park, 66 Brim­ley Road. Do­na­tions may be made to The Ge­orgina Foun­da­tion c/o 25 El­wood Blvd., Toronto M4R 1B8.
