Af­ter a long and ful­fill­ing life, Jack Barry El­lis, Ph.D., passed away peace­fully at his home on Septem­ber 26, 2018. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; de­voted daugh­ters Car­olyn and An­drea; car­ing son-in-law Don Lewis; and his 6 lov­ing grand­chil­dren Erin, Kyle and Matthew ( Im­rie); Baker, Han­nah and Syd­ney (Lewis). Jack was Pro­fes­sor Emer­i­tus and for­mer As­so­ciate Dean of En­vi­ron­men­tal Stud­ies at York Uni­ver­sity. He was an avid trav­eller, vo­ra­cious reader, con­sumer of cur­rent events, and ac­tivist for causes he be­lieved in. He in­spired those around him with his pas­sion for em­brac­ing new cul­tures, ideas and lan­guages, and think­ing out­side the box. Jack took great pride in his fam­ily, and he will re­main in our hearts for­ever. Fam­ily and friends will be re­ceived at the Mount Pleas­ant Vis­i­ta­tion Cen­tre, 375 Mount Pleas­ant Rd., Toronto (east gate en­trance, north of St. Clair Ave. 416-485-5572) on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 27, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flow­ers and in re­mem­brance of Jack, do­na­tions to the Uni­ver­sity of Toronto School or an en­vi­ron­men­tal cause of your choos­ing are wel­comed.
