Bruce County Blues fundraiser Jan. 15 to help send ‘Li’l Blues Pill’ to Memphis
The Bruce County Blues Society, in association with the Bruce Steakhouse, is hosting a fundraiser on Sunday Jan. 15 to raisemonies to cover expenses for the band they are sending toMemphis at the end of this month.
“Li’l Blues Pill”, a trio from Toronto and London, will represent the blues society at the four day long International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.
The fundraiser is from 2-5 p. m. at The Bruce Steakhouse with admission by donation at the door.
“As a Canadian blues society affiliated with the Blues Foundation, we see this as part of our commitment to promote the blues, giving Canadian artists the opportunity to compete on the international stage,” said Debbie French, president of the Bruce County Blues Society. “Travel, accommodations, and meals for the four days inMemphis for the trio will be considerable so we are hoping for a good turnout of local blues fans on January 15.”
The International Blues Chal l enge is the Blues Foundation’s signature event that turns all of Beale Street into a four- day big blues venue for more than 200 blues acts from around the world. The2017 International Blues Challenge will be the 32nd year of blues musicians from around the world competing for cash, prizes, and industry recognition.
The world’s largest gathering of blues acts represents an international search by The Blues Foundation and its affiliated organizations for the Blues Band and Solo/ Duo Blues Act ready to take their act to the international stage.
Li’l Blues Pill won the Regional Qualifier, “Journey from Queen Street to Beale Street” held by the Bruce County Blues Society in October.
In order for a Canadian band to compete at the IBC’s inMemphis, they first need to compete inalocal competition hosted by a blues society affiliated with the Blues Foundation.
This is the fifth time that the local blues society has sent a band toMemphis.
