Construction for new hotel begins
Groundbreaking ceremony for new hotel in town
The first official dig on the site of the new Victoria Place hotel took place last week as Mayor Morrison and developers officially began construction.
Many notable people from the community and those involved with the development of the hotel gathered last Tuesday in a field that once was the grounds of Victoria Public School.
It was only fitting that the ground breaking ceremony for a hotel that will be on the same grounds of Victoria Public School, be held on the first day of school.
“Starting in July 2016 I started work to help the owners and the developer in the Official Plan Amendment and the re-zoning. We worked hard with Town Officials and Council to come up with a workable proposal for all parties,” explained Kris Kiar.
“I feel that Harb Kaler, the developer, and the owners, a group from all across Canada, helped greatly by their flexibility in this process. Their architect, Chamberlain, who will also be the lead contractor, their engineer, MTE and the planner, Hugh Handy, convinced the County that this was the right move.”
The hotel that will be built on the same site as the Public School that many in the community would have been educated in, and it is appropriate to name the new Goderich hotel as Victoria Place.
Victoria Place will be a Comfort Inn Suites and the building permit was issued
Mayor Morrison made the first official dig into the ground, at the location where the new four-story hotel will be built. Construction for the hotel, which will be named Victoria Place, has officially begun, with plans for the hotel to be completed by Summer 2018.
