The GDCI Se­nior and Ju­nior girls’ bas­ket­ball sea­sons are short with only nine reg­u­lar sea­son games.

Only hav­ing played four games so far, the se­nior team finds it­self sit­ting in fifth place with only five games left.

The first game of the sea­son was onWed­nes­day, Septem­ber 20 and the se­nior team beat F.E. Madill 44-27.

Fol­low­ing that win, on the same day, the se­nior team com­peted against St. Michael and heart­break­ingly lost 62-15.

The next game was on Wednesday, Septem­ber 27 against Strat­ford Cen­tral. De­spite the close score, GDCI un­for­tu­nately fell 42-36.

Just last week onWed­nes­day, October 4, the se­nior team played against St. Anne’s and de­feated them 59-23.

The ju­nior girls’ bas­ket­ball team, af­ter hav­ing only played four games as well, find their po­si­tion at sixth place in the stand­ings, with six games left in the reg­u­lar sea­son.

Their first game­was against F.E. Madill on Septem­ber 20. The game re­sulted in a loss for GDCI, los­ing 31-23.

In the same day, the ju­nior girls com­peted against St. Michael and lost an­other game, 31-24.

Start­ing the sea­son of­fwith two losses, the ju­nior girls did not let that de­ter them, and in the next two games, de­feated their op­po­nents.

On Septem­ber 27, the girls played against Strat­ford Cen­tral and won 40-30, and then last week on October 4, won against St. Anne’s, 42-21.

Ac­cord­ing to Coach Ko­vats, both the se­nior and ju­nior girls’ bas­ket­ball teams are hope­ful and more than likely to make play­offs.
