Park­ing lot fender ben­der leads to im­paired charge

(HURON EAST, ON) A 24-year-old from Seaforth has been charged with Im­paired Driv­ing and Over 80 fol­low­ing a crash that took place at a res­tau­rant park­ing lot in Seaforth this past week­end.

Just after 7:00 a.m. on Satur­day, Septem­ber 15, 2018 Huron County On­tario Pro­vin­cial Po­lice (OPP) re­sponded to the res­tau­rant park­ing lot lo­cated on Goderich Street East to speak with a driver that just struck a parked mo­tor ve­hi­cle while en­ter­ing the park­ing lot.

Upon ar­rival po­lice iden­ti­fied the driver that col­lided with the parked ve­hi­cle and had an op­por­tu­nity to speak with him. Upon speak­ing with the male driver po­lice noted the driver had con­sumed some al­co­hol was pos­si­bly im­paired so a stan­dard field so­bri­ety test was con­ducted.

Upon fail­ing the so­bri­ety tests the driver was ar­rested for Im­paired Driv­ing and was trans­ported to the Huron OPP De­tach­ment for breath tests. He sub­se­quently pro­vided two sam­ples of his breath to a qual­i­fied In­tox­ilizer Tech­ni­cian and both of his sam­ples reg­is­tered over the le­gal limit.

As a re­sult, a man of 24 years of age, from Seaforth has been charged with Im­paired Driv­ing and Drive Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle With Over 80 Mil­ligrams of Al­co­hol.

He has since been re­leased from cus­tody with a court date sched­uled for Oc­to­ber 1, 2018 at the On­tario Court of Jus­tice Goderich. His ve­hi­cle will be im­pounded for a week and his li­cence has been sus­pended for an au­to­matic 90 days.
