2018 IODE Christmas House Tour Homes

The Goderich Signal-Star - - News -

Our homes for the 2018 IODE Christmas House Tour on November 10th and 11th are in town and all are west of Hwy 21, making a gently curving route to the South Cove Clubhouse at 300 Bethune Crescent, our refreshment venue this year.

Our five homes are all very different, each one offering a unique and beautiful touring experience.

92 St. George’s Crescent, MacDermitt’s Castle, is a beautifully maintained historical home overlooking the lake, and now a beautiful Bed and Breakfast. This home is rich with history including large beautiful rooms and a graceful staircase.

At 90 St. Patrick’s Street, the home is ripe with unique antique accents that embellish this beautiful historical landmark. The interior wood is original, and the current owners have recently repainted the exterior in exactly the same colours as it was when owned by the Videan family. 20 Wellington Street, Strachan House is a QueenAnne/Italianate home, remarkably unaltered and beautifully decorated. This home as been in the Hughes family since 1948 and features a Mansard roof of patterned slate, Italian marble fireplaces and intricately moulded window headings throughout. Just across the corner, 34 Wellington Street is a beautiful one and a half storey, Ontario Cottage style home, circa 1850 and includes beautifully restored original plank flooring and a bright open warm feeling throughout. Shrubbery, greenery, garden and trees fully nestle the building and lend it a quiet presence.

The final home on the list is 177 Bethune Crescent. It is of the newest additions to the town of Goderich. This striking grey brick home is less than 1 year old and was completely custom designed by the homeowners. Light, bright and airy, this open concept home has a modern farmhouse feel with clean lines and a casual California vibe.

Our house tour would not be possible without the generous support of our decorators, including All Around the House, The Culinary Poet, Watson’s Home Hardware, Fincher’s and our two new decorators featured this year, Janay’s Home Décor and Interiors by Sarah Langtry. Greyhaven Gardens, Arts Landscaping and David Scott will provide exterior decorations; floral centerpieces are from Luann’s Flowers & Gifts and Zehrs provides Poinsettias.

There will be art by Michele Miller at 92 St. George’s Crescent. Tickets are $20.00 each and are obtainable from the Tourism Office, the Library, IODE members or any one of the decorators mentioned above.

Your ticket will entitle you to discounts at some of the stores — refer to your ticket for details.

All proceeds from the tour are spent in the community to benefit women, children and those in need. Last year’s house tour was a sold-out success and assisted many charities and organizations.
