Here are some facts and fig­ures from the first full year of the Pal­lia­tive Home Care Drug Pi­lot Project:

81 pa­tients have been reg­is­tered, rang­ing in age from 18 months to 96 years.

12 died at home, 18 died in des­ig­nated pal­lia­tive care beds and 11 died in hospi­tal.

Pa­tients have spent 24 per cent more time at home dur­ing ill­ness than prior to project.

To­tal num­ber of hospi­tal days re­duced by 1,110 through this project.

An es­ti­mated $1 mil­lion in sav­ings to the health-care sys­tem. Source: P.E.I. Depart­ment of Health
