UPEI field hockey team drops game to Western Ontario
Huskies rally for women’s hockey win
HAMILTON — The UPEI Panthers lost 6-0 to the Western Ontario Mustangs in quarter-final action Friday at the Ontario University Athletics field hockey championship.
The Panthers are the Atlantic University Sport representative in the tournament. They are also the Maritime league champions.
In the other quarter-final game Friday, Waterloo edged York 1-0.
UPEI and York will play in the consolation game this morning.
Waterloo will play No. 1 seed Guelph and Western will take on No. 2 Toronto in semifinal action tonight.
The medal games are on Sunday, with the two finalists advancing to the CIS championship, Nov. 5-8, in Victoria, B.C.
HALIFAX — The Saint Mary’s Huskies rallied from an early two-goal deficit to beat the UPEI Panthers 5-2 in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey action Friday night.
UPEI dropped to 2-2-0 with the loss.
Scoring for the Huskies (4-1-0) were Kyla Thurston, with two goals, Rebecca Mosher, Carla Little and Lauren McCusker.
Genna Phelan and Amanda Armstrong (1-1) scored 16 seconds apart early in the first perod to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Suzanne Cortilet drew an assist.
UPEI led 2-1 after the first and trailed 4-2 after the second.
The Huskies outshot the Panthers 31-29 in the contest.
Goaltenders were Bailey Toupin (UPEI) and Jillian MacIsaac (SMU).
UPEI is at Dalhousie and St. F.X. next weekend.
