Is­land’s top player gets tough test

Todd Gre­gory, the Is­land’s topranked player, was given a tough test by new­comer Su Xing at the re­cent Ta­ble Ten­nis Fall Clas­sic in Char­lot­te­town.

Gre­gory pre­vailed, but only af­ter Xing had given him a ma­jor scare, tak­ing a two-game lead and lead­ing 5-1 in the de­cider, be­fore Gre­gory came back to claim the A ti­tle, 12-10.

Robert Gao and Mark Gre­gory were the beaten semi­fi­nal­ists.

In the B Divi­sion, 2011 Canada Win­ter Games hope­ful Chris Gal­lant de­feated Alex Younker in five games, while the C Divi­sion ti­tle was claimed by David Keenly­side, who went un­de­feated in his pool, de­feat­ing an­other new­comer to the club, Mark Hsu in the fi­nal.

The next event is a team tour­na­ment, Nov. 21-22, at Stonepark school.
