In­vest­ing in lo­cal so­cial hous­ing

The province has com­mit­ted to a five-year in­vest­ment of $750,000 per year to fund ren­o­va­tions aimed at im­prov­ing so­cial hous­ing in Prince Ed­ward Is­land.

The projects that will be funded will see up­grades to more than 20 build­ings from Al­ber­ton to Souris.

This week­end, the first round of ten­ders will be ad­ver­tised invit­ing busi­ness and en­trepreneurs to bid on the work that will be avail­able through this in­vest­ment. These ten­ders in­clude the ma­jor­ity of the projects that will be com­pleted this year.

Fam­ily and Hu­man Ser­vices Min­is­ter Doug Cur­rie noted de­mand for fam­ily and se­niors hous­ing is very high and cost­shar­ing pro­grams with the fed­eral gov­ern­ment are crit­i­cal.
