Arsenault leads Juniors to victory
The P.E.I. Juniors split a doubleheader in Fredericton, N.B., on Saturday winning 53 and losing 8-1 in New Brunswick Junior Baseball League action. Brady Arsenault carried a one-hitter into the sixth to lead the way in the opener. He settled for a three-hitter through six innings before Nick MacPhail pitched the seventh for the save. Logan Gallant singled in a run and Cole MacLaren doubled in two more as P.E.I. scored three runs with two outs in the first. J.J. Oram and Jed Noonan had RBI singles in the sixth to complete the Island scoring. It was the third hit off the game for both players while MacPhail added two hits. Pascal MacCarthy took the loss. Fredericton took advantage of errors to jump to an early lead in the second game and cruise to victory. Ryan Morneau pitched the complete game victory while Nathan McInnis took the loss, allowing three earned runs through three innings. Brad Power pitched the final three innings, allowing one batter to reach base. Nick O’Dell’s bases-loaded triple was Fredericton’s key hit. Brady McQuaid, Porter Smith, Arsenault, MacPhail, MacLaren and Oram had P.E.I.’s hits. P.E.I. hosts the first-place Chatham Ironmen Saturday at noon in Cornwall for two games.
