Arse­nault leads Ju­niors to vic­tory

The P.E.I. Ju­niors split a dou­ble­header in Fred­er­ic­ton, N.B., on Satur­day win­ning 53 and los­ing 8-1 in New Brunswick Ju­nior Base­ball League ac­tion. Brady Arse­nault car­ried a one-hitter into the sixth to lead the way in the opener. He set­tled for a three-hitter through six in­nings be­fore Nick MacPhail pitched the sev­enth for the save. Lo­gan Gallant sin­gled in a run and Cole MacLaren dou­bled in two more as P.E.I. scored three runs with two outs in the first. J.J. Oram and Jed Noo­nan had RBI sin­gles in the sixth to com­plete the Is­land scor­ing. It was the third hit off the game for both play­ers while MacPhail added two hits. Pas­cal MacCarthy took the loss. Fred­er­ic­ton took ad­van­tage of er­rors to jump to an early lead in the sec­ond game and cruise to vic­tory. Ryan Morneau pitched the com­plete game vic­tory while Nathan McInnis took the loss, al­low­ing three earned runs through three in­nings. Brad Power pitched the fi­nal three in­nings, al­low­ing one bat­ter to reach base. Nick O’Dell’s bases-loaded triple was Fred­er­ic­ton’s key hit. Brady McQuaid, Porter Smith, Arse­nault, MacPhail, MacLaren and Oram had P.E.I.’s hits. P.E.I. hosts the first-place Chatham Iron­men Satur­day at noon in Cornwall for two games.
