Five peo­ple es­cape Tignish fire

A work­ing smoke alarm is be­ing cred­ited with alert­ing five peo­ple to a house fire in Tignish early Sun­day morn­ing.

The five peo­ple – a mother and fa­ther, their two chil­dren and a vis­it­ing child – es­caped the Ho­gan Road home with only the clothes they were wear­ing, Tignish Fire Chief Har­ley Perry re­ported. Perry said the fire is be­lieved to have started around the air ex­changer at the rear of the bun­ga­low. The fire, he said, was then able to fol­low the pipe open­ing for the air ex­changer up into the at­tic.
