Busy summer of activities
PEIWI awards scholarships to Island students
The P.E.I. WI board awarded scholarships within the past few weeks and is now gearing up for a busy summer with preparations for the annual Handcraft, Horticulture and Arts Show during Old Home Week.
Plans for fall events are also well underway.
P.E.I. WI recently awarded two scholarships. The PEIWI Education Scholarship for 2015 was awarded to Jasmine Frizzell of North Winsloe while the Louise MacMillan Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Morgan Paige MacDonald from York. Both are students at the University of Prince Edward Island. The board extends best wishes to the winners and all applicants in their continued studies.
The P.E.I. Women’s Institute reminds all students there are several scholarships offered throughout the year. The next opportunity is for the Helen Herring Scholarship for students entering their third year university. Deadline is Sept. 30; details are available online at www.peiw.ca.
Old Home Week is slated for Aug. 13-22, and Islanders are invited to submit entries to the WI Handcraft, Horticulture and Art Show. Various classes in art, crafts, food, flowers, photography and vegetables can be entered and will be on display during the Island’s top exhibition. The deadline to register is July 25. Additional details are online at www.peiwi.ca.
A variety of demonstrations will again take place this year beginning on Aug. 17 and will run through to Aug. 22. Demonstrations include origami, recycling, knitting, glass etching, felt art, wood carving and card making. A complete and detailed list will be available online and on site. Also, included will be rug hooking.
