Driver who killed two while tex­ting, speed­ing sen­tenced to two years

Win­nipeg — A young driver has been sen­tenced to two years in cus­tody for a crash in Win­nipeg that killed two peo­ple and in­jured three oth­ers. Court heard the woman, who was 17 at the time of the crash in 2010, was speed­ing and tex­ting. She had also been drink­ing. The woman, now 22, pleaded guilty in youth court to crim­i­nal neg­li­gence caus­ing death and crim­i­nal neg­li­gence caus­ing bod­ily harm. A judge re­fused a Crown re­quest to sen­tence her as an adult. Fol­low­ing her cus­tody term, she will also be un­der manda­tory com­mu­nity su­per­vi­sion for one year.
