Driver who killed two while texting, speeding sentenced to two years
Winnipeg — A young driver has been sentenced to two years in custody for a crash in Winnipeg that killed two people and injured three others. Court heard the woman, who was 17 at the time of the crash in 2010, was speeding and texting. She had also been drinking. The woman, now 22, pleaded guilty in youth court to criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. A judge refused a Crown request to sentence her as an adult. Following her custody term, she will also be under mandatory community supervision for one year.
