A petition signed by hundreds of Islanders is calling for the P.E.I. government to implement a new provincial climate change action plan. A total of 409 Islanders signed the petition, which was tabled in the legislature this week. The petition notes the province’s last work on this issue was a strategy for “reducing the impacts of global warming,” published in November 2008, noting this report is now out of date. It further notes the UN’s climate change report warned the plant is becoming dangerously close to an extreme, irreversible climate change crisis. “We the undersigned call on provincial leaders to act now to create and implement a new provincial climate change action plan as soon as possible.”
