Three facts about Sa­muel Hol­land

1 - In 1758-1759, Sa­muel Hol­land drew charts with James Cook of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and Saint Lawrence River in prepa­ra­tion for an at­tack on Que­bec. 2 - In 1767, he pro­posed that Bri­tish ex­plor­ers look for a North­west Pas­sage from the At­lantic Ocean to the Pa­cific Ocean, but his pro­posal was never acted upon. 3 - In 1772, he mar­ried Marie-Joseph Ro­lette, his com­mon law wife since the early 1760s. Ro­lette’s head­stone can be found at the South Shore United Church in Tryon.
