Three facts about Samuel Holland
1 - In 1758-1759, Samuel Holland drew charts with James Cook of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and Saint Lawrence River in preparation for an attack on Quebec. 2 - In 1767, he proposed that British explorers look for a Northwest Passage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, but his proposal was never acted upon. 3 - In 1772, he married Marie-Joseph Rolette, his common law wife since the early 1760s. Rolette’s headstone can be found at the South Shore United Church in Tryon.
