‘Blessed Assurance’ at The Guild Sundays and Thursdays
“Blessed Assurance: the Story and Songs of Fanny J. Crosby” takes to the stage at The Guild this summer with two matinees a week until Aug. 30.
Homefree Productions presents this compact one-hour musical on Sunday and Thursday afternoons at 2 p.m.
Created and performed by Pamela Campbell and Nancy Beck, the show toured recently to 34 Island venues on behalf of Young at Heart Musical Theatre for Seniors.
“We received such an enthusiastic response, not just from seniors, but from people of all ages, that we decided to offer Blessed Assurance to a wider audience this summer,” says Campbell.
The musical explores the life and work of the prolific American hymn writer, Fanny J. Crosby. First published in the last half of the 19th century, her hymn lyrics are still sung around the world today.
Guild audiences will be invited to sing along with Campbell and Beck to familiar songs like Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross, All the Way My Saviour Leads Me and Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine. Lyrics will be provided.
Tickets are available at The Guild box office (corner of Richmond and Queen streets, Charlottetown), by phone at 902-620-3333 or 1-866-774-0717, or online at theguildpei.com.
