Town of Souris focuses on spotless Main Street

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - THE PROVINCE -

A big sweep is underway here and it has nothing to do with curling.

The Souris in Bloom committee in partnership with the town is handing out free brooms to Main Street businesses as part of a “Clean Sweep” campaign.

“We want to reduce litter, cigarette butts and make the town more enjoyable for residents and business alike,’’ says Mary Ellen O’Brien, the co-ordinator.

“So we are handing out the brooms and asking business folks to do a quick sweep at their business front each day.”

The bloom committee has also been the force behind hanging baskets and sending out post cards to residents who have made a special effort cleaning up properties.

The goal is also to prepare the area for Community in Bloom judges, who will visit the town July 19 to 21.
