City awards contract
Bevan Bros. to install Charlottetown’s water meters
Bevan Bros. Limited was awarded the $1.2 million contract for the City of Charlottetown’s residential water meter installation program.
Charlottetown’s water and sewer utility requires all flat-rate customers to switch to metered service by Dec. 31, 2019.
Residential meters will be provided and installed for existing flat-rate customers who are connected to water and sewer.
City staff will meet with Bevan Bros. Limited representatives to create a map showing the different phases of the project. Information sessions will be held during the course of the installation to inform the public of the progress and schedule.
“One thing we want to make clear is that this project is going to take some time and it’s going to be a while before the contractor gets to every residence to install a meter,” said Coun. Edward Rice, chairman of the city’s water and sewer utility committee.
“Residents don’t have to wait to get a meter. We are still taking volunteers — those who wish to jump ahead in line per se — to get a meter installed sooner than later. People are saving money by switching to the metered rate and being on the metered system also allows them to better track the amount of water they use on a daily basis. We want to accommodate anyone who wishes to reap those benefits right away.”
