Canada still unbeaten
AJAX, ONT. — Undefeated Team Canada took flight in the sixth inning, scoring five runs to take control against winless Dominican Republic in Pan Am Games softball. Canada went on to win Wednesday night’s game by that same 7-2 score, moving to 4-0 in the standings. The Canadians face Venezuela (3-1) in their last round-robin contest on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., Atlantic time. This game will decide first place heading into the playoff round. Prince Edward Islander Jeff Ellsworth, who put up big numbers in Canada’s previous two wins, only entered the game against the Dominican Republic in the top of the seventh inning, and did not bat. Canada’s starting pitcher Andy Skelton had a no-hitter going until he ran into trouble in the fifth, giving up two runs on one hit as the Dominicans rallied to tie the game 2-2.
