Canada still un­beaten

AJAX, ONT. — Un­de­feated Team Canada took flight in the sixth in­ning, scor­ing five runs to take con­trol against win­less Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic in Pan Am Games soft­ball. Canada went on to win Wed­nes­day night’s game by that same 7-2 score, mov­ing to 4-0 in the stand­ings. The Cana­di­ans face Venezuela (3-1) in their last round-robin con­test on Thurs­day at 5:30 p.m., At­lantic time. This game will de­cide first place head­ing into the play­off round. Prince Ed­ward Is­lan­der Jeff Ellsworth, who put up big num­bers in Canada’s pre­vi­ous two wins, only en­tered the game against the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic in the top of the sev­enth in­ning, and did not bat. Canada’s start­ing pitcher Andy Skel­ton had a no-hitter go­ing un­til he ran into trou­ble in the fifth, giv­ing up two runs on one hit as the Do­mini­cans ral­lied to tie the game 2-2.
