Pair named top scholar ath­letes

Soc­cer play­ers So­phie Hall and Dar­ren Lun­dri­gan are the Hol­land Col­lege Hur­ri­canes fe­male and male Cana­dian Col­le­giate Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion top scholar ath­letes, re­spec­tively, af­ter main­tain­ing a bet­ter than 90 per cent av­er­age in their pro­grams.

Hall, a Lower Sackville, N.B., na­tive, had a 92 per cent av­er­age in the culi­nary arts pro­grams while play­ing for the women’s soc­cer team, while Lun­dri­gan, a Mon­tague na­tive in the her­itage retro­fit car­pen­try pro­gram, fin­ished with a 92.1 per cent av­er­age as a mem­ber of the men’s soc­cer squad.

Olivia Led­son, a travel and tourism man­age­ment stu­dent from Wind­sor, N.S., was the top fe­male club scholar-ath­lete with a 92.4 per cent av­er­age while on the cheer­lead­ing team.

On the men’s side, Mark Kelling­ton, a sport and leisure man­age­ment stu­dent from New­mar­ket, Ont., com­pleted the school year with a 94.5 per cent while play­ing with the football Hur­ri­canes.

The team award went to the women’s soc­cer, which had a school high 16 scholar-ath­letes.

To re­ceive these awards, stu­dents must main­tain at least an 80 per cent over the year of study.

This year, 93 Hur­ri­canes stu­dent-ath­letes were rec­og­nized.
