Pair named top scholar athletes
Soccer players Sophie Hall and Darren Lundrigan are the Holland College Hurricanes female and male Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association top scholar athletes, respectively, after maintaining a better than 90 per cent average in their programs.
Hall, a Lower Sackville, N.B., native, had a 92 per cent average in the culinary arts programs while playing for the women’s soccer team, while Lundrigan, a Montague native in the heritage retrofit carpentry program, finished with a 92.1 per cent average as a member of the men’s soccer squad.
Olivia Ledson, a travel and tourism management student from Windsor, N.S., was the top female club scholar-athlete with a 92.4 per cent average while on the cheerleading team.
On the men’s side, Mark Kellington, a sport and leisure management student from Newmarket, Ont., completed the school year with a 94.5 per cent while playing with the football Hurricanes.
The team award went to the women’s soccer, which had a school high 16 scholar-athletes.
To receive these awards, students must maintain at least an 80 per cent over the year of study.
This year, 93 Hurricanes student-athletes were recognized.
