Father accused of shaking baby, faces aggravated assault charge
GATINEAU, Que. — A girl who is not yet two months old is in critical condition in an Ottawa hospital after allegedly being shaken by her father. The 25-year-old Quebec man was charged with aggravated assault when he appeared in a courtroom this afternoon in the western Quebec town of Gatineau. He was arrested on Wednesday in Thurso shortly after the girl was taken to hospital. The Crown opposed the man’s release and he will remain behind bars at least until the case resumes Monday. His lawyer says his client has no criminal past.
