Com­mu­ni­ties in Bloom judges here July 21-23

A pre­vi­ous in­ter­na­tional win­ner, the City of Char­lot­te­town is wel­com­ing na­tional Com­mu­ni­ties in Bloom judges from July 21-23. Char­lot­te­town has en­tered the class of cham­pi­ons cat­e­gory and will be judged on qual­i­ties such as tidi­ness, en­vi­ron­men­tal ac­tion, her­itage con­ser­va­tion, ur­ban forestry and flo­ral dis­plays. The City of Char­lot­te­town won the na­tional ti­tle in 2001 and 2007 and the in­ter­na­tional chal­lenge in 2011. Char­lot­te­town Mayor Clifford Lee said, “Each year, our cit­i­zens get heav­ily in­volved. They demon­strate their civic pride and help us pro­mote our green spa­ces, sus­tain­able ini­tia­tives and beau­ti­fi­ca­tion ef­forts.” The judges will be­gin their eval­u­a­tion of Char­lot­te­town on Wed­nes­day by vis­it­ing Con­fed­er­a­tion Land­ing and par­tic­i­pat­ing in a her­itage walk­ing tour down­town. The re­sults of the judg­ing will be an­nounced dur­ing the Com­mu­ni­ties in Bloom sym­po­sium and awards cer­e­monies in Kam­loops, B.C., be­tween Sept. 30 and Oct. 3.
