Proposed rezoning

Public meeting being planned to review application

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - THE PROVINCE -

Kensington residents will have a chance to voice concerns they have with a proposed rezoning of the former Nazarene Church building.

The rezoning request comes from Coreen Pickering, who is also a Kensington councillor. She is asking that 47 Victoria St. be rezoned as a commercial property.

Pickering, who, along with her husband is looking to purchase the property, hopes to run a small business from the location. That business would include Island-themed cooking classes.

A condition of purchase of the property is that the rezoning be approved.

The issue was discussed at this week’s council meeting.

Pickering would normally have had to declare a conflict of interest and remove herself during the debate, but was not in attendance due to a prior commitment.

A date for the public meeting has not yet been set, but town manager Geoff Baker said it is expected to take place sometime in August.
