Andrews Hockey hosting benefit game
Proceeds to assist family of young Summerside boy
The hockey community is rallying behind Griffin Read of Summerside.
The 10-year-old son of Jason and Trudy Read and a brother to Quinn and Sophie recently had a large tumour removed from his abdomen at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.
Griffin was diagnosed with desmoplastic round blue cell sarcoma, and will require about 28 weeks of chemotherapy followed by about four weeks of radiation.
To assist the family during this time, Andrews Hockey has organized a benefit game at MacLauchlan Arena on Sunday. The puck will drop at 7 p.m., and game admission at the door is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Griffin is a former Andrews Hockey summer program graduate.
Players include goalie Drew MacIntyre, defencemen Derrick Walser, Adam McQuaid, Ryan MacKinnon, Morgan Ellis, Nathan McIver, Bailey Webster and Chris Owens.
Forwards include Brett Gallant, Ross Johnston, Keith Getson, Josh Currie, Zack MacEwan, Jesse Sutton, Matt Brenton, Darryl Boyce, Brad Smith, Alex Gallant, Geoff Walker, Chris Desousa and Spencer Smallman.
Additional players will be announced leading up to the game.
Donations can be made online at http://www.gofundme. at the door on Sunday or at Andrews Hockey Office at 550 University Ave. in Charlottetown.
