An­drews Hockey host­ing ben­e­fit game

Pro­ceeds to as­sist fam­ily of young Summerside boy

The hockey com­mu­nity is ral­ly­ing be­hind Grif­fin Read of Summerside.

The 10-year-old son of Jason and Trudy Read and a brother to Quinn and So­phie re­cently had a large tu­mour re­moved from his ab­domen at the IWK Health Cen­tre in Hal­i­fax.

Grif­fin was di­ag­nosed with desmo­plas­tic round blue cell sar­coma, and will re­quire about 28 weeks of chemo­ther­apy fol­lowed by about four weeks of ra­di­a­tion.

To as­sist the fam­ily dur­ing this time, An­drews Hockey has or­ga­nized a ben­e­fit game at MacLauch­lan Arena on Sun­day. The puck will drop at 7 p.m., and game ad­mis­sion at the door is $10 for adults and $5 for chil­dren.

Grif­fin is a for­mer An­drews Hockey sum­mer pro­gram grad­u­ate.

Play­ers in­clude goalie Drew MacIn­tyre, de­fence­men Derrick Walser, Adam McQuaid, Ryan MacKin­non, Mor­gan El­lis, Nathan McIver, Bai­ley Web­ster and Chris Owens.

For­wards in­clude Brett Gallant, Ross John­ston, Keith Get­son, Josh Cur­rie, Zack MacEwan, Jesse Sut­ton, Matt Bren­ton, Darryl Boyce, Brad Smith, Alex Gallant, Ge­off Walker, Chris Desousa and Spencer Small­man.

Ad­di­tional play­ers will be an­nounced lead­ing up to the game.
