Reds head­ing to Mas­sachusetts tour­na­ment

The Sco­tia­bank Reds hit the road to­day for a tour­na­ment in Mas­sachusetts.

The un­der-18 girls soft­ball team is us­ing it to pre­pare for the Cana­dian cham­pi­onships in Mon­treal from Aug. 2 to 9.

The Reds are the only Cana­dian team in this week­end’s 31team All-Amer­i­can Chal­lenge in Low­ell.

“To go up against the best com­pe­ti­tion from the Eastern dis­trict of the (United States) will be a great chal­lenge for our squad,” said man­ager Jor­dan El­lis.

The Reds play twice Fri­day be­fore at­tend­ing a Red Sox game with the Detroit Tigers. They have three games Satur­day with the play­offs set for Sun­day.

“We can­not wait for Low­ell, as this will be great prepa­ra­tion be­fore na­tion­als,” said co-cap­tain Hope Hig­gin­botham.

The team has won all three of the tour­na­ments it has en­tered this sum­mer and are com­ing off a 7-6 win over the Is­land Im­pact, Prince Ed­ward Is­land’s se­nior women’s team.

“This was the fifth time we have played them this sum­mer. Af­ter them win­ning the first four, we were happy to get a win be­fore we go to Low­ell,” said co­cap­tain Laura Ready.
