Entertainment big part of Northumberland Fisheries Festival
The 36th annual Northumberland Fisheries Festival will be held in Murray River, starting today at 6:30 p.m., with the parade and wrapping up Sunday July 26, 7 p.m., with the gospel ceilidh at the Northumberland Arena.
Plan to take part in the many excellent entertainment features during the four-day festival, starting with The Key Notes (Clifford MacIntyre and Mary Mullens) and guests Vince Savoie and Leonard Gaudet, today at 9 p.m.
July 24 will be a busy day with many events and the first concert, an old fashioned ceilidh, with Michael O’Connor, Michael Buell, Marian Bruce, Marie Mac- Intyre, Len Buell and Edna MacMaster starting at 3 p.m. The next group will be The Decoders who will be on stage at 5 p.m. Included in this well-known eastern P.E.I. group are Niall MacKay, Peter Burke, George MacPhee and Heartz Godkin. At 9 p.m., enjoy Treble with Girls, including Jolee Patkai, Norman Stewart, Sheila MacKenzie and Maxine Maclennan.
Entertainment for the day on Saturday includes the youth showcase concert at 1:30 p.m. organized by Carole MacDonald. At 3:30 p.m., guests will enjoy the second old fashioned ceilidh, featuring Mary Lou MacLure, the Bernard family, (Vanessa, Jackie and Sheila), Colton Matheson, Glen MacDonald and Angela Curran.
For step-dancing fans, the Michelle Banks Dancers, with professionally trained dancers of all ages, will take the stage at the festival, 5-6 p.m., on Saturday.
Garnet Buell and the Singing Islanders (Donald MacKenzie, Jim Madsen, Gill Nowlan, and Glenda Johnston) will be featured from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. Special guests are Brittany Banks, the MacDonald Sisters (Marie Docherty and Doris MacDonald) and Vanessa Bernard.
On Sunday, July 26, enjoy a gospel ceilidh at 7 p.m.
