Atlantics set for weekend

UPEI’s Canada Games Alumni Track to host event

The best track and field athletes from across Atlantic Canada will gather at UPEI on Saturday and Sunday.

The Atlantic athletics championships and Hershey’s youth championships will be held at the Canada Games Alumni Track.

In addition to the senior events, Hershey’s is sponsoring the youth- and midget-age group categories, and there will also be a special run, jump, throw, wheel category of events for children 13 and under.

These events will occur between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., on Saturday. Registration is open to anyone online at www.trackie.com (online registration – look for Atlantic championships – the run, jump, throw, wheel event is a separate registration category.)

Another component of the event is the final opportunity for elite athletes to score points in the Maritime Track League. This is a new series of meets across the Maritimes, and the top athletes are eligible for cash awards but they must compete in the Atlantic championships in order to be eligible.
