Plate fi­nal­ist Si Se­malu head­lines tonight’s fea­ture at Char­lot­te­town oval

Fresh off the $22,000 Gover­nor’s Plate fi­nal, Si Se­malu will have rail con­trol in tonight’s fea­ture race at Red Shores at the Char­lot­te­town Driv­ing Park.

Owned by Foxy­hall Rac­ing of Wal­lace, N.S., and a win­ner of more than $150,000 dur­ing his ca­reer, the five-year-old son of Mod­ern Art will look to pick up his first vic­tory on red soil since re­port­ing to P.E.I. in mid June. He will gain the ser­vices of his trainer and top Char­lot­te­town driver Jason Hughes.

For­ever Par­adise, the five years on of Western Par­adise, is listed as the morn­ing-line favourite from Post 6. He has been no worst then sec­ond in his first six starts, in­clud­ing a life­time-best of 1:55.1 two starts ago. Owned by Reg MacPher­son, David and Aaron MacKen­zie, the Kevin Ma­cLean-trainee will be driven by Mike McGuigan.

Jersey Joe will put his three­r­ace win streak on the line from Post 7 in the fea­ture, which also in­cludes Tempo Seel­ster, Smi­ley Bayama, Likely To Win, Cabo Pan Lu­cas and Water­side Light.

A pair of open trots are set for tonight. The first in Race 2 has Plea­sure Girls pegged as the morn­ing-line choice for owner Shel­ley Gass and trainer-driver Ron­nie Gass. The field also fea­tures Frill Seeker for the Ebb­s­fleet Sta­bles and Thun­der­away, a new­comer to Foxy­hall Rac­ing.

Race 4 fea­tures a pair of new­com­ers. Post 4 starter, Ken­nel Buddy, comes from On­tario for trainer David Dowl­ing. Wal­ter Chev­erie gets the call on the fiveyear-old Ken Warkentin geld­ing, who was a win­ner last time out in 1:57.2 over Ge­or­gian Downs.

The sec­ond new­comer comes from the pow­er­ful Pa­trick Shep­herd sta­ble. A win­ner of 105 races this year, the Stratford na­tive sits sec­ond among train­ers in all of Canada. He will send out Weskey for owner Stephen Mor­ton of Wind­sor, N.S. Harold Shep­herd gets the call in the sulky on the win­ner of four races in a row, his last a life­time best 1:56.4 over Ge­or­gian Downs.

The 12-dash card gets un­der­way at 6 p.m.
