Ar­ti­sans on Main marks third year in Souris

It’s only the third sum­mer of oper­a­tions, but Ar­ti­sans on Main in this eastern port town has earned a Vol­un­teer of the Year Award.

The down­town re­tail shop has be­come a des­ti­na­tion stop with as many as 30 artists ac­tively work­ing and volunteering and en­gag­ing visi­tors and cus­tomers.

“Visi­tors from far and wide have stopped in to take a look, and pur­chase from these very tal­ented lo­cal ar­ti­sans and we are thank­ful for this group,” said Joeanne Roche, spe­cial events co-or­di­na­tor for the town.

The ar­ti­san shop was re­cently pre­sented with the Arts, Her­itage and Cul­ture Vol­un­teer of the Year Award from the town of Souris.

“We were de­lighted to re­ceive this recog­ni­tion,’’ said ar­ti­san and vol­un­teer shop­keeper Sherri Gallant dur­ing a re­cent tour.

“It’s been great to see the growth we’ve ex­pe­ri­enced since open­ing and the num­ber of visi­tors gen­er­ated.

be­ing with a colour­ful out­side dis­play and flags and con­sists of artists within the Points East Coastal Drive.

The co-op­er­a­tive of­fers work­shops on up­cy­cled tshirts, scenic ball felt­ing, make your own sock mon­key, and wa­ter­colour ba­sics ev­ery Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon.
