MCPEI revitalizes charity golf tournament to benefit P.E.I. Aboriginal Sports Circle
Event happens Sept. 11 in Stratford
When the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of P.E.I. (MCPEI) holds its annual charity golf tournament in September, it will be presenting a unique cultural experience with all funds raised to be directed toward a special cause: the P.E.I. Aboriginal Sports Circle.
The seventh annual MCPEI Charity Golf Tournament will be held at Fox Meadow Golf Club in Stratford on Sept. 11. For one day Fox Meadow Golf Club will be the site of Mi’kmaq cultural demonstrations, dancing and drumming, as well as unique contests and prizes. A banquet held after the event will feature more entertainment and some traditional Mi’kmaq foods.
“We have received some great feedback from last year’s participants and we realize that we can make this a one of a kind experience,” said tournament organizer Ricky Knockwood, a young Mi’kmaq golfer who is currently enrolled in the Golf Club Management Program at Holland College.
The cost per team is $750. For those who do not want to golf but still want to participate in this unique cultural experience, tickets for the banquet/entertainment can be purchased for $50.

The Sports Circle assists young Aboriginal Islanders to participate in local, regional and national sporting events.
Last year, P.E.I. was represented by eight athletes at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in Saskatchewan.
The Sports Circle hopes to expand that representation at future events, such as the NAIG, by further developing existing athletes and providing opportunities for children and youth to explore their interests and abilities in a broad range of sports.
MCPEI is inviting corporate groups, associations, agencies, community groups and members of the public to enter a team, become a sponsor, or make a donation to this important cause.
