Youth in ser­vice mak­ing Is­land con­nec­tions

Char­lot­te­town Sev­enth-Day Ad­ven­tist Church is host­ing 50 Pathfind­ers ages 11-16 and Pathfinder Coun­sel­lors from Toronto, Aug. 1-8.

Along with sight­see­ing they will be en­gag­ing in com­mu­nity out­reach. On Mon­day and Wed­nes­day they will be as­sist­ing at the Soup Kitchen, Food Bank, and Thrift Store (Bi­bles for Mis­sions). Pathfind­ers will as­sist with Va­ca­tion Bi­ble School at Hills­boro Com­mu­nity Cen­tre from Mon­day to Fri­day start­ing at 9 a.m. at run­ning un­til noon. Pro­fes­sion­als will present work­shops on em­ploy­ment readi­ness, grief and loss; and health-detox. All are welcome to at­tend. Con­tact Alice Homer to RSVP at 902-566-5888.

Brent Chin, a tech­ni­cal sales pro­fes­sional ex­pe­ri­enced in hir­ing col­lege/univer­sity grads, will be con­duct­ing a two-part work­shop, Mon­day, Aug. 3, and Wed­nes­day, Aug. 5, 6-8 p.m.. at the Don and Mar­ion McDougall Hall, Room 243, UPEI. This is de­signed to help dif­fer­en­ti­ate one­self at all stages of ob­tain­ing a ca­reer-en­try po­si­tion. Chin presents a prac­ti­cal ap­proach to pre­par­ing for in­ter­views, com­mu­ni­cat­ing ef­fec­tively and inspires peo­ple to de­velop their own per­sonal brand early in ca­reer de­vel­op­ment.

Nu­tri­tion­ist Carolyn Ni­chol will take par­tic­i­pants through the ba­sics of un­der­stand­ing how the sys­tem works at fight­ing tox­ins ev­ery day and what can be done to en­cour­age that process. She will also show how to do a nat­u­ral detox with sim­ple in­gre­di­ents and con­tinue this process with recipes that will re­vi­tal­ize the sys­tem. Wed­nes­day's work­shop is 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Seven­thDay Ad­ven­tist Church, 70 Roy­alty Junction Rd., and in­cludes demon­stra­tions of detox recipes and food sam­ples.

Eileen Dahl, reg­is­tered psy­chother­a­pist and hos­pi­tal chap­lain, will also be hold­ing an in­ter­ac­tive work­shop about loss and how to get through it to­gether at the Mount Con­tin­u­ing Care on Mon­day, Aug. 3, 2-3 p.m., and at South Shore Villa on Wed­nes­day, Aug. 5, 2-3 p.m., and Satur­day, 2:30-3:30 p.m., at SDA Church.
