Youth in service making Island connections
Charlottetown Seventh-Day Adventist Church is hosting 50 Pathfinders ages 11-16 and Pathfinder Counsellors from Toronto, Aug. 1-8.
Along with sightseeing they will be engaging in community outreach. On Monday and Wednesday they will be assisting at the Soup Kitchen, Food Bank, and Thrift Store (Bibles for Missions). Pathfinders will assist with Vacation Bible School at Hillsboro Community Centre from Monday to Friday starting at 9 a.m. at running until noon. Brent Chin, a technical sales professional experienced in hiring college/university grads, will be conducting a two-part workshop, Monday, Aug. 3, and Wednesday, Aug. 5, 6-8 p.m.. at the Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Room 243, UPEI. This is designed to help differentiate oneself at all stages of obtaining a career-entry position. Chin presents a practical approach to preparing for interviews, communicating effectively and inspires people to develop their own personal brand early in career development.
Nutritionist Carolyn Nichol will take participants through the basics of understanding how the system works at fighting toxins every day and what can be done to encourage that process. She will also show how to do a natural detox with simple ingredients and continue this process with recipes that will revitalize the system. Wednesday's workshop is 6:30-8:30 p.m. at SeventhDay Adventist Church, 70 Royalty Junction Rd., and includes demonstrations of detox recipes and food samples.
Eileen Dahl, registered psychotherapist and hospital chaplain, will also be holding an interactive workshop about loss and how to get through it together at the Mount Continuing Care on Monday, Aug. 3, 2-3 p.m., and at South Shore Villa on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2-3 p.m., and Saturday, 2:30-3:30 p.m., at SDA Church.
