Bike ride set for Aug. 2
Lloyd McLean is planning a special bike ride across P.E.I. for Aug. 2.
The P.E.I. Big Bike Ride is not a fundraiser, it is an event to raise awareness of the importance for all Canadians to incorporate sustainable activity into their daily lifestyle.
The ride will follow the Confederation Trail from Tignish to Elmira on a fat tire bike.
The total distance is 273.4 kms, and it is expected to take 14 hours to complete.
MacLean will start in Tignish at 6 a.m. on Aug. 2 and with an expected average speed of 20 kms/hour will finish in Elmira at around 8 p.m.
In 2013, MacLean bicycled across Canada, covering 8,200 kms in 85 days. His dad died due to complications from dementia in 2012 and this ride is in memory of his father.
Every year the number of Canadians classified as obese increases.
In addition, every year the number of Canadians directly or indirectly impacted by Alzheimers increases.
