The P.E.I. Scotiabank Reds’ under-18 girls softball team is 2-0 at the All-American Challenge in Lowell, Mass. The Reds, behind a strong pitching performance by Alyssa Fleming, opened with a 2-0 win over the New England Diamond Gems in the morning, and then outlasted the New Hampshire Mystics 8-7 in the afternoon. Emily Brothers, who recorded the save against the Diamond Gems, led the Reds’ offence against New Hampshire, going 2-for3 with two doubles. Jada Yeo was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the opener and 2-for-3 with two doubles in Game 2. “We played excellent defence in our first game, and in the second after being down by four runs, the bats came alive like,” said manager Jordan Ellis. The Reds are scheduled to play three games Saturday.
