RCMP con­tinue look­ing for woman who may have lept from bridge

An RCMP dive team was in the wa­ter Fri­day search­ing for a woman that may have leapt from a bridge in Cove­head early Tues­day morn­ing.

The divers be­gan their search around 7 a.m.

An un­der­wa­ter re­mote con­trolled video cam­era was used Wed­nes­day to search for a pos­si­ble body.

Po­lice are still ask­ing the public to re­port any miss­ing per­son or if some­one was walk­ing on the Cove­head bridge early Tues­day morn­ing to con­tact the RCMP at 902-368-9300.

The po­lice have not re­ceived any calls to date. The search be­gan af­ter a cou­ple called 911 around 1 a.m. Tues­day af­ter see­ing a woman they es­ti­mate to be be­tween the age of 50 to 60 years old stand­ing in the mid­dle of the bridge.

When the cou­ple turned back to see if she needed help, the woman was gone.

The RCMP re­ports that the cou­ple searched the area be­low the bridge but there was no sign of the woman.

The RCMP, 413 Trans­port and Res­cue Squadron out of Greenwood, N.S., Parks Canada staff, the North Shore Fire Depart­ment, P.E.I. Ground Search and Res­cue vol­un­teers, and lo­cal fish­er­men all joined the search Tues­day as the day pro­gressed.
