SUMMERSIDE - Fi­nal prepa­ra­tions are un­der­way for the re­turn of cham­pi­onship-cal­i­bre soft­ball to Summerside. The 2015 Tri-Tech Ser­vices na­tional un­der-21 women’s fast­pitch cham­pi­onship is sched­uled to be­gin at Queen El­iz­a­beth Park on Wed­nes­day morn­ing. The Very Im­por­tant Vol­un­teer ( VIV) Field has been painted and has un­der­gone con­sid­er­able work to the in­field. Work has also been done to the press box and dress­ing rooms, which will be uti­lized by the um­pires (males and fe­males) and tour­na­ment of­fi­cials. It will mark the first City of Summerside-hosted na­tional soft­ball cham­pi­onship since the 2008 Cana­dian ju­nior women’s fast­pitch tour­na­ment. The host Char­lot­te­town Bot­tle and Me­tal Mariners’ first game is against Nova Sco­tia at noon, and then face the de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons (Al­berta Wild­cat War­riors) at 7 p.m. (TC Media)
