Alleged motel thief staying in custody
Cory Adam Arsenault, 33, of Linkletter has been charged with robbing two motels in Summerside.
Arsenault has been charged with two counts of robbery with violence and one count of wearing a mask during the commission of an offence.
He was arrested Friday and made a brief court appearance Monday where he was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on Aug. 26.
The charges stem from two robberies Thursday morning, one at the Mulberry Motel on Water Street and one at the Summerside Motel on Route A1.
In the first case, a man rang the doorbell for service at about 4 a.m. and then demanded money when he was let inside the office. He fled the scene with a small amount of cash.
In the second case, a man wearing a ski mask ran into the motel office at about 10 a.m. that same morning.
He demanded money from the front desk clerk and grabbed a small amount of cash. However, a patron of the motel saw what was happening and tackled the thief. They scuffled briefly before the masked man managed to get away and ran off.
No one was seriously injured and no weapon was used in either incident.
