Youth Se­lects, mid­get all-stars split week­end dou­ble dip

Teams each win a game with a walk-off hit

The P.E.I. Youth Se­lects split a dou­ble­header with the P.E.I. Mid­get All Stars in P.E.I. Ju­nior Base­ball League ac­tion last week­end in Summerside, each team win­ning with walk-off hits.

In Game One, Brett Platts’ sin­gle brought home Gavin Hickey with the win­ning run in the bot­tom of the eighth in­ning for a 4-3 Youth Se­lects vic­tory.

Kyle Pinksen picked up with the win with four in­nings of score­less re­lief of Kal­lum Muir­head, who went the first four. The pair com­bined for one earned run on six hits.

Midgets starter Brodie Koughan went five in­nings, giv­ing up six hits and three runs.

Dean Car­roll suf­fered the loss in re­lief.

Platts had two hits for the Se­lects while Parker Har­vey led the Mid­get All-Stars at the plate with a pair of sin­gles.

In Game Two, Daw­son MacCor­mack scored the win­ning un­earned run on a sin­gle by Har­vey in the bot­tom of the sev­enth for the 5-4 tri­umph.

Brett Hicken picked up the win in re­lief of MacCor­mack.

Matt Bar­low came on in the fifth for the Se­lects and was the tough luck loser af­ter Bran­don Con­don went the first four in­nings.

Sam Cameron, JJ Oram and Har­vey all had two hits for the Midgets.

John Savi­dant, Hickey and Pa­trick Gallant, each with two hits, led the Se­lects’ of­fence.

The Se­lects play at Canada Cup na­tional cham­pi­onship next week in Saska­toon, Sask., open­ing against New­found­land and Labrador on Wed­nes­day, Aug. 5.
