Youth Selects, midget all-stars split weekend double dip
Teams each win a game with a walk-off hit
The P.E.I. Youth Selects split a doubleheader with the P.E.I. Midget All Stars in P.E.I. Junior Baseball League action last weekend in Summerside, each team winning with walk-off hits.
In Game One, Brett Platts’ single brought home Gavin Hickey with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 4-3 Youth Selects victory.
Kyle Pinksen picked up with the win with four innings of scoreless relief of Kallum Muirhead, who went the first four. The pair combined for one earned run on six hits.
Midgets starter Brodie Koughan went five innings, giving up six hits and three runs.
Dean Carroll suffered the loss in relief.
Platts had two hits for the Selects while Parker Harvey led the Midget All-Stars at the plate with a pair of singles.
In Game Two, Dawson MacCormack scored the winning unearned run on a single by Harvey in the bottom of the seventh for the 5-4 triumph.
Brett Hicken picked up the win in relief of MacCormack.
Matt Barlow came on in the fifth for the Selects and was the tough luck loser after Brandon Condon went the first four innings.
Sam Cameron, JJ Oram and Harvey all had two hits for the Midgets.
John Savidant, Hickey and Patrick Gallant, each with two hits, led the Selects’ offence.
The Selects play at Canada Cup national championship next week in Saskatoon, Sask., opening against Newfoundland and Labrador on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
