FIVE FACTS ABOUT THE POWER CABLES
Maritime Electric expects laying the cables at the bottom of the Northumberland Strait will take one week for each of them.
The cables will run underwater from Cape Tormentine and come ashore on the Borden-Carleton side of the Northumberland Strait.
To get power to the cable another 60 kilometres of transmission lines will be built between Cape Tormentine and Memramcook, N.B.
The provincial and federal governments have committed $100 million to build the cables.
There won’t be any joints in the cables, which are about 25 cm in diameter.
