FIVE FACTS ABOUT THE POWER CA­BLES

1 Mar­itime Elec­tric ex­pects lay­ing the ca­bles at the bot­tom of the Northum­ber­land Strait will take one week for each of them.

2 The ca­bles will run un­der­wa­ter from Cape Tor­men­tine and come ashore on the Bor­den-Car­leton side of the Northum­ber­land Strait.

3 To get power to the ca­ble another 60 kilo­me­tres of trans­mis­sion lines will be built be­tween Cape Tor­men­tine and Mem­ram­cook, N.B.

4 The pro­vin­cial and fed­eral gov­ern­ments have com­mit­ted $100 mil­lion to build the ca­bles.

5 There won’t be any joints in the ca­bles, which are about 25 cm in di­am­e­ter.
