Inmate convicted of manslaughter, dismemberment faces sex charge
WINNIPEG — An inmate at Manitoba’s Stony Mountain penitentiary has been charged in a four-year-old sexual assault case. Investigators say they used DNA evidence to identify a suspect in an attack on a 20year-old woman on a Winnipeg street in July 2011. Police say the woman was knocked unconscious and sexually assaulted by an attacker, who fled when a witness intervened. Emery Miles McLeod, who is 41, is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm. McLeod, who is serving a 15year sentence for manslaughter in the death of his former roommate, was charged earlier this month. Darin Monias was killed and dismembered in 2012 in what McLeod’s lawyers argued was a consensual wresting match that got out of hand. They said McLeod, who was found not guilty of second-degree murder, cut up the body to conceal his roommate’s death.
