Feds fund lighthouse repairs, fuel tanks

The Guardian (Charlottetown) - - PROVINCE -

Some of P.E.I.’s lighthouses will be getting repairs thanks to funding from the federal government announced Thursday. The Fisheries and Oceans Department will spend about $500,000 on five lighthouses around the province and for the installation of fuel storage tanks at the Charlottetown Airport. Those tanks are for the Canadian Coast Guard. Some of the work will include removing lead paint and re-painting the lighthouses in Bedeque, New London, North Cape, North Rustico and the Haszard Point Rear Range. The North Rustico lighthouse will also get other repairs, including replacing doors, installing a waste disposal system and upgrading the heating system. At the airport three storage fuel tanks will be replaced for fuel to service the coast guard’s helicopter.
