Eric Mathe­son, 92, died peace­fully in Ivany Place, Hal­i­fax, on July 29, 2015. Eric will be lov­ingly re­mem­bered by his wife of 72 years, Mae (Pearo/MacAu­lay); five chil­dren: Mal­colm (Mar­garet), Ken­neth (Dawn), Linda, Colleen (Alan), and Gordie (Neala); eight grand­daugh­ters; 13 great-grand­chil­dren; sis­ter-inlaws Blanche Mathe­son, Mary Mathe­son, Agnes Mathe­son, and Gla­dys Walsh; brother-in-law, Lawrence Ber­ri­gan; his long time friend, Reg­gie Mur­phy; and nu­mer­ous nieces and neph­ews. He is pre­ceded by his par­ents, John and Ada (Hickox) Mathe­son, broth­ers Elmer, Jack (Alice), Homer ( Jenny), Ben­jamin (Cathy), Ma­jor, Miller, Rod­die, and sis­ters Eleanor (Her­bie) Stan­ley and Is­abella Ber­ri­gan as well as two both­ers in in­fancy John Arthur and Arthur John. Born on P.E.I., Eric was a sports fan, played com­pet­i­tive ball, hockey, & bowl­ing well into his 60s. He en­joyed any com­pe­ti­tion, in­clud­ing a lively game of crib and 45s. Eric served in the Sec­ond World War as a radar op­er­a­tor on the Leth­bridge and Kenogame. While serv­ing, Eric met and mar­ried the love of his life, Mae. Eric en­joyed work­ing on cars (or any­thing with a mo­tor), help­ing oth­ers, and to visit fam­ily and friends. The vis­i­ta­tion and cer­e­mony will be held in Syd­ney, CB, on Au­gust 4, from 1-3 p.m. at TW Curry Fu­neral Home, and in­tern­ment at Hard­wood Hills, Syd­ney.
